David Churchill is a passionate believer in the compatability of good antiques and contemporary design. After a career in the luxury goods trade and years haunting salerooms and antique shops in London and on the Continent David has a clear philosophy of interior design: “You don’t need a big house or a room full of antique furniture to do justice to a particular piece. In fact, one striking object in a simple setting usually works much better”.
Often it is just a question of placing objects in the right context or creating the right arrangement. This can mean an elaborate piece of 18th-century furniture in a minimalist modern setting or using a table from the early 1800s to display sculpture from the early 2000s. David has a particular admiration for the glass designed by the Scandinavian masters of the 1950s and 1960s and how their simple organic designs can, when gathered into large groups, make stunning displays.
